Songwriting Stars came into being in March 2022, born out of big love for songwriting, a passion for sharing knowledge with others, and a sincere belief that everyone deserves to uniquely express themselves through music.

Erin Symonds

Songwriting Teacher and Founder

Erin is a singer-songwriter and classically trained musician, and a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

She has taught music to all ages, from toddlers and preschoolers in nursery classes, to primary and secondary school students, and adult groups; including providing inclusive workshops for neurodivergent and disabled adults.

As well as singing, Erin plays piano, trumpet, and ukulele, and has performed in orchestras, bands, and theatre pits, as a soloist at weddings, funerals, and special events, and gigged as part of the indie duo, the Curious Cat Club.

She has been writing and performing her own music for 20 years, and her song Kaleidoscope was a finalist in the lyrics category of the International Songwriting Competition (2010). You can listen to some of Erin’s songs here.

As a teacher and musician, Erin was an inspiration to young students and her passion for music was contagious. She is self-disciplined and was always on time and prepared for lessons. She is able to relate to young students beyond music and is still a favoured teacher and friend.

It is clear that Erin is an impressive all-round musician and has the ability to inspire others to achieve as she does herself, an invaluable quality for anyone involved with teaching, coaching or performing music.
— Philip Hesketh, Musical Director
Erin provided our group with a weekly music class for children aged 0-3 years old. The children all loved Erin, who had such a lovely way with them and was always happy and friendly. Erin had a lovely voice and the children were always captivated listening to her play the trumpet.
